How to keep your walkways safe with Iris Landscaping Services!

There is nothing worse than clearing your driveway only to have it snowed over overnight. The bigger problem hides underneath, a layer of ice ready to cause injury to your family and visitors! It's an accident waiting to happen, but you can reduce the risk of slips and falls with several simple and effective solutions.

Ice Safety Tip 1: Clear the Snow in a timely matter

This might be a bit obvious, and tedious, but it's an effective way to prevent ice from forming underneath all the snow! The sooner you remove the snow, the lower the chances of it turning to ice, therefore preventing accidents.

We understand that this process is time-consuming and not everyone has time to shovel the driveway, Iris Landscape Services are available 7 days a week to help keep you safe.

Ice Safety Tip 2: Use PET-FRIENDLY Ice Melter

The most common solution people use to prevent ice from building up and melt it after it forms is rock salt.

However, while effective, they can be potentially dangerous to animals and if they ingest it, it may be fatal. Some of these solutions are also hazardous to your lawn and surrounding flowerbeds as well as surrounding ecosystems.

That's why a pet-friendly ice melter is a safer alternative. This can be found locally at a store like Home Depot. But when in doubt just be very conscious of using rock salt and keep an eye on your pets.

Ice Safety Tip 3: Make Your Own Deicer

Rubbing alcohol, or isopropyl alcohol, is one of the main ingredients in numerous deicers that you can find in stores.

You can also make your own deicer by mixing rubbing alcohol with water in a 2:1 ratio. A spray bottle is a good choice for making the spritzing process easier and more convenient! This helps prevent your walkway from turning into a mini skating rink!
